Salaam

Your name has never been easy for people to get considering your origin. You’ve tried to understand why your parents chose it over every other name they could have picked. But it doesn’t matter to you because you know what it means to you.

Your life has been a series of storms, each competing to win the trophy for the most cataclysmic.

You’ve watched tides rise and fall, except the tides are seasons in your life. You’ve lived through chaos like no one would believe. Or maybe they would. Again, it doesn’t matter.

But your name, you know what it means. You’ve repeated it over and over when the nights get dreary and the overcast seems to engulf your essence. When you can’t focus and it seems the world was spinning around you. The name has meant everything to you.

And yes, some times, you wished things were different and your life knew a little more order, fewer uncertainties, clearer view, silence. You’ve dreamed of a faraway place, perhaps a castle on a hill looking down on a sleepy little town.

Or a lighthouse that sits just above a sea that gets turbulent but never shares of the chaos. Stoic, confident, reassuring, it shines a light out through the darkness, helping wondering souls find their way to shore.

But there is that longing within you drawing you towards the epicentre, where everything is hell. You try to run but it is ever-present. A part of your soul. It is you.

Until you remember that name. It means peace to you. It’s the repose you’ve wanted your whole life. It’s the light from the lighthouse. Because while you wish you were that lighthouse, you know you’re more of the lost soul out at sea.

And that name, the one no one knows why you are called by it, is the one thing that holds you together. Today, now, always.

Salaam. You’re safe.
