Realisation is Key to Change

It gets to a time in everyone’s life when you realise you are too old for some things you do everyday and some thoughts you allow to occupy your mind, the people you allow to be in your life, the things you allow to affect you, your reaction to situations… The only difference in individuals is when we come to this realisation.

The sad part of this is that, most people come to this realisation very late in their life.

A friend told me recently, “the difference between us and them is that we are making an effort to be better.”
While I agree with him, the main difference is not the effort, it is rather the realisation. If you don’t realise there is a need to change, you can’t make an effort to change. Continue reading “Realisation is Key to Change”

Musing

Five a.m and I’m here pondering.
It’s very saddening looking at our track record over the course of history; it’s not looking very good. If you go through history, you’d see that most of the time, whenever man migrated and settled in a new place, they always found a way of expelling the present residence of the place–and not just expel them to a new location, they expel them into extinction, some animals, some plants. When we move around and put down our foot in a cancerous manner, what good really does that do?

For example, look at the Australian megafaunas. They were alive and kicking until about 45,000 years ago when man settled in Australia and gradually, more than 90% of them disappeared. It happened in America 16,000 years ago, as well as other places; man arrived and the long-time inhabitants began to disappear. Continue reading “Musing”

Cause and Effect (How it Affects Us)

If you believe in the order of the universe (that, (1.) things do not just happen randomly, there is a reason for (and an order to) everything, which is because, (2.) there are laws governing the universe, such as the law of cause and effect or you can call it the principle of causation) then you know that there is nothing anyone does (cause) that does not have an equal reaction (effect). If you don’t believe this, well…
It is very simple: whatever you do, you’re at the same time investing an equal force in the opposite direction (towards you), and it doesn’t matter how long it takes for that equal reaction to reach you, make no mistake, it will reach you in this very lifetime.
I want you to take note of the word “EQUAL“, where I referred to an “equal reaction”. Got it? Very good.

Now that we are clear on that, let’s move on.

The universe is a complex system. Various parts of it are working simultaneously and at the same time obeying the laws of the universe. For example, somewhere in Congo, a man committed a grievous crime secretly, the universe logs it into its account and according to its configuration, sets the date for the reaction. While in a small town in Japan a young girl offered a helping hand, the universe does the same thing as it did in Congo. Continue reading “Cause and Effect (How it Affects Us)”

Therapy

It is not about my issues. It is not even about my good deeds. It’s always been about me – my very self. I am my worst enemy. I know this. She knows this. Everyone knows this. But still, they let me be. Whether to see if I can find a way to save myself or if I will self-destruct, I can’t say.

It is past noon and she is seated adjacent to me, her voice calm. “You still have to try. For me” She says.

I normally would stare back silently till she gave up but today I sit up straight, my eyes out of focus. I want to answer her. I’m dying to tell her the truth. I want her to see that I’m trying for her but I just can’t focus.

“Are you high right now?” She asks.

She comes into focus briefly, but then whirls out. I shrug. “Numb.”

“Sorry?”

I clear my throat. “Numb.” Continue reading “Therapy”

When Life Happens…

I was on my way back to Lagos when I saw these words on a billboard:
When Life Happens, Still Be Happy.
I thought it to be strange at first because of the word “Still.” Why would someone want you to still be happy when life happens? But then I realized that there are two right questions and that wasn’t one of them.
The first is: What does it mean for life to happen? It was obvious whatever this “life” is, it had to be negative because of the use of “still”. So I thought about my life.
I recently just got back from the South-Eastern part of the country where I had been for the larger part of a year. It was a rural area and there were various challenges I experienced, the major part being that there was little to no electricity where I stayed for practically a whole year which made it quite a challenge for me, an internet person, to stay in touch with everything outside of that little town.
But that was not all. Continue reading “When Life Happens…”
