You do something impressive. I mean, you all by yourself come by an obscure solution to a pesky problem. And of course you’re impressed by that feat.
When you do enough of that, when you come across answers that are not very obvious, that could only have been arrived at by some sophisticated line of thinking, you start to feel entitled.
You must be smarter than majority of the folks out there and you need to be treated as such. It’s not every day they come across a very smart person like you.
And that entitlement you feel starts to fuel your ego, making you believe you are more than you are, it puts you in a class where many could only dream of attaining….or so you think.
Until you realise, you really are no where special. That feat you pulled was just something you were designed to do.
As a matter of fact, someone else has done that before you. Even more impressive is that someone from a lower rank, be it socially or academically, did that without giving it a second thought.
You are a thinking machine. It’s your job to figure shit out. A copier wouldn’t be demand special treatment for copying, nor would a calculator for calculating.
Humans are multi-purpose machines. We are programmed to do a wide range of things on different levels of sophistication. So really, it’s no special thing when you finally arrive where you should have arrived a long time ago.
But don’t beat yourself up for arriving late–at least you have.
More importantly, don’t demand our respect for arriving at all–you met others there.
