We are sometimes made to believe that ego is the enemy. That those with a huge ego are somehow less honourable people than those with smaller egos.

Many a time, it is the sound of our past that we keep dancing to, way past the present and deep into the future. We keep an old melody alive, singing its praise and applauding its orchestral eloquence. It was, once, but that is not enough. We embody it as the future, we worship it.

… then I’m less of a coward than I was last year.
It’s my 24th birthday today, and trust me, my 23-year old self would not have found the courage to make this post. Maybe he would have written it, but it would never see the light of day.
I’m growing.
In the event that things don’t turn out the way we plan for it to, all hell has the potential to go loose. It is instinctual to want order in our lives. But one of the most dominant things in our existence is the ever presence of chaos, unpredictability, the unknown–in the weather, in the response and reaction of others around us, in the future. We are surrounded by uncertainties and it is normal for us to want to exert control and authority over the things closest to us, over the people around us. It is only human of us to want to be in charge of something, because then, we don’t feel so helpless and useless.
The problem of one hit wonder is that it is like smoke. It is gone before you realise.
Why? Because it entails gaining the spotlight before you learn how to work the lights. It is gaining massive recognition before you have attained mastery.
The one constant thing I’ve always cared about is myself. In any situation I find myself, anywhere, any time, the one thing I think about is how I can leave a better me or gain from whatever situation I am….or at least, even if I can’t gain, I should be able to leave without losing. That sounds selfish, I know. In fact, very selfish, I know too.
But the thing is, if I don’t care about myself and becoming better and gaining or in the least break even, who else will?
