TIme and Essence

A second. A glance. A word. It’s strange how powerful these seemingly little measures can be the difference between life and death.

You’re sitting in a bus reading a novel and easing into the sound of the engine you know so well after hundreds of trips like this one. You notice a baby flapping her chubby arms across her mother’s shoulders and you smile. The baby’s wide eyes glow and she smiles widely, innocently beautiful.

Understanding Reality: An Autopsy or A Biopsy?

I have a mild interest in science fiction for the simple reason that it is sort of a predictor of what is to come based on reality. While most fictions miss the mark completely, some hit bull’s-eye with uncanny precision.

The most interesting of the lot, however, are those that we never see coming because they sound too ridiculous or those that are presently the case but sound like fiction.

Time, purpose and the meaning of everything

How to Not Waste Your Life

If there is anything anyone should cherish, keep, guard with all jealousy and zealousness, it is their time.

Hiatus

Distance and time are two things that could make or mar you. Distance, they say, makes the heart grow fonder. Also, some say, out of sight, out of mind.

And to do that, some times you need space. You need to put a wide gap between you and whatever it is that got you tied up in a bunch in the first place, between you and that overwhelming thing; your job or a person or your kind of lifestyle.

The Weekend Plan

A thought kept buzzing in my mind as I closed for work that Friday evening.  The thought of a romantic weekend with my lady. I hastily packed my bag, placing my laptop upside down – I never do that! And humming Don Williams’ Shelter of Your Eyes with a bright smile on my face. She should almost be home now, if not already. Moyin likes to surprise me, or so she thinks, whenever she visits. But the way her face lights up when I feign surprise gives me a kind of happiness that makes me want to keep that smile on her forever. It has been five months since she last visited. So, you can imagine my excitement when she called me in the evening of Wednesday to tell me that she was coming in two days. Of course that meant a romantic dinner, crazy cuddling; we would stare at the night’s sky in each other’s arms giggling like kids, and I would not bother to tell you about the sex, other than it always left us breathless and satisfied.
